Pink or white lumps around the genitals (these may sometimes itch)
These lumps are cauliflower like and can appear inside the vagina as well as externally. They can be spread simply through genital contact with the infected person as well as oral, anal and vaginal sex. If you think you have this STD then keep the area clean and dry at all times and avoid any irritants. It is possible to have sex but only if the condom covers up the warts and this is not possible in all cases. Do not try and treat this STD yourself, it is necessary to seek medical help.
The doctor or GUM clinic worker will be able to diagnose genital warts simply by looking at them and you can be given a treatment there and then, you may need an external examination to check for this STI. You have a variety of treatment options if you have this which include: anti-wart liquid, anti-wart cream, freezing or laser treatment. This will probably take place over a number of weeks whichever option you choose.
It is best to avoid scented soap products or vaginal deodorants as these can cause some pain or make the symptoms worse.
One thing to be aware of is that genital warts can reoccur after you have had them once as the virus can stay with you. If this happens then go and get treated again. You should also have a smear test after having this STI as it can cause changes in cervical cells.
